Sunflower Mini Sessions and 10 Tips to Help You Prepare

It’s that time of the year, sunflower season is upon us and booking a Sunflower Mini Session is such a fun way to capture family memories and take in the beauty of these humongous flowers!!  Get the family ready with these tips to help you prepare for your photo session.

1. Check in with everyone, is this a go?

Sunflower Sessions are amazing, you know this, we know this, BUT some members of the family might not feel so… enthused.  Let them know ahead of time, explain to them why this is important for you and what it means to have these memories.

2. Keep the kids relaxed and entertained for the drive.

Usually sunflower photos are done as mini sessions so you have limited time in front of the photographer.  And, you want to show up with a family that is relaxed and happy! If you live far from the farm, bring ideas like driving games to keep the kids content.

3. Make Sunflower Mini Sessions a Party!

Ask family or friends to book a session with you!  Kids will love having their friends to play with and the session becomes more about a play date rather than just a photo session.

4.  Bug Spray and Bite Relief Pen

You’re outdoors and again you’re in front of the camera for a short period of time so don’t lose precious time managing  potential hazards like a bug bite.  And the possibility of putting a damper on a fun time. Pack something to help repel the little critters and something to alleviate a bite if you get one.

5. Don’t forget the Sunblock

An obvious one but silly if I didn’t mention it on my list.

6. Coordinate your Sunflower Mini Session Outfits/Clothing

This is the time for your family’s personality to shine through so go crazy.  Sunflowers are fun. And neutral colours are always a good and timeless choice.

7. Don’t Forget the SNACKS AND WATER!

Remember, anything to keep the kids happy and chill.

8. Be Prepared to WAIT.

The farms might offer props and sets to give you a variety of photos.  These are popular with families who will be there at the same time, so remember to pack your patience.

9. Now what? After the Sunflower Mini Sessions

You’re already out, so do some research before your trip to the farm and make plans to check out the local shops or restaurants to make it a fun day.

10. Book your session early

With a busy summer full of activities and other obligations, book early so you get the time slot that works for you.

And another thing! Sunflowers are in bloom from late July to early August and I highly recommend making this family thing to do this summer!! Hope you enjoy your sunflower mini session!!
